So, I am working on this quilt and I was soooooo excited to do it, becaue I absolutely fell in love with the fabric that I just had to do something with it! It turns out that I am not really making a quilt, other than the part where I have to hand quilt it. HA! I did not make individual squares, because the material has a "quilt square" look to it to begin with, so it is more of a "blankie."
The whole thing started when my grandma got me a craft book. I do not read or follow patterns well, because I AM A MORON, so I did not really expect much from the book, but I did not tell grandma that! She lives on very little to begin with and if she saw fit to buy me a book I had better make the best of it, damn it!
Anyway, I got the book and called her to thank her and she started telling me about the duvet cover that she loved from the book. I have to wonder if she got the book for me or for me to make her a duvet cover that she liked, from said book?!?!? Regardless, I have the "pattern moron issue," so I decided I would search for some fabric to make her a "bed cover" with.
I love, love, love this material! It makes me think of Paris, which happened to be exactly what my sister said too, as she went material searching with me! It is soooo neat! Granny had better like it too, or ELSE! That's right! Or ELSE!
Since I decided not to make a "quilt square quilt" out of this "nearly perfect" material, I went ahead and got some coordinating green and pink material to put along the edges, so as to extend the side of the "bed cover" some. Did I mention that I looooooooove this material!?!? Well, I do!
Currently, I am doing the excrutiatingly slow hand quilting around the little hearts! I like hand quilting--sometimes! Right now, it is slow and slow and more slow, but I would have to guess that I will survive! I will let you all know if I don't!
After the quilting, all I have left is to secure the binding, so I guess I am well on my way to finishing this project. I can't wait to see grandma's reaction! I already ruined the "surprise" by calling her and telling her I am making her a "bed cover" and that she had better love it, flaws and all, because she loves me! You know, like when your 5 year old gives you a booger crusted kiss and it melts your heart, because it means they still love you even after learning you are not perfect after all! Yep, like that!
Well, that blanket/quilt/bed cover/anything but duvet cover is not going to quilt itself, so you have a great day and think of me working away!

hey wait a second! While I am ecstatic that you've posted, I wanna see a picture! Get back here, missy!
I am so jealous of your fabulous talents....can you teach me? Now that I have my very own...yep very own...sewing machine...remember from the "feminine" neighbor I really need some tips on using it. I can sew anything by hand but this machine will make it a hell of a lot faster right? Did I mention I made valances for my bedroom, Lil D's bedroom, and the windows are work by hand. Yep I did....sore & bloody fingers and all. So someday would you give me a crash course on the fancy machine thingy?!!! Good luck with the bed cover/thingy not duvet cover! I bet the material is awesome...cause you told us like a million times!! ;o) I know your grandma will love it cause it was made with your love!!!
Ok, Marcia, the addition of the pic is just for you! I figured why not show it in all of its undone splendor, right? Oh well, as you can see, I was not kidding about the hand stitching or the binding! Honestly, other than the stitching around some of the designs, I only added the border and binding--and quilt batting and backing, but you know all about that, I am sure--so it really isn't much of a creation, but I am just thrilled!
As for you, 3DNP, I would gladly help you with whatever I can---JUST AS SOON AS YOU HAVE TIME! I know you are still living in the mess that is remodeling! I only have a simple machine, though, so if it is something more complex, I might need reinforcements! I also don't read patterns, as I have said, so I am not much help there! I just pick the idea up, feed it into my head, and spit out whatever I can come up with! Sometimes I use a pattern, but I don't read directions! MAJOR DOWNFALL! I just don't translate them well enough to make it worth my time! Like I said before, I am a pattern MORON!
I truly love the pattern!! your g-ma will love it. not only cause it is neat, because you took the time to do something nice for her, like 3dnp said, with your love. if ur interested, i can keep you busy and make a few xtra bucks with the 14 billion belly bands i need....lol!!! they work, k, well off to clean, have a great, fantastic, productive day. ttyl...heaven says hi and she can't wait to come to your house...
You will have to take pics of it and send them to me, so I can see what they really entail. I doubt it is too detailed, but I don't want to get myself in too deep! But in the name of you keeping your dog, I would probably take a stab at it!
I want one! I want one! And I won't even buy you a book! haha It is just soooooo pretty. i absolutely love it, and I bet it is warm and cozy. Ugh, it is just so pretty! I want to remodel my bedroom, now. I'm sure Big T would like a Parisian look better than an Oriental look. :)
hey thanks for the picture! It is great fabric. Oh and just call it a WIP (work in progress) pic and nobody really cares what it looks like. :)
wow, that sounded bad. I meant nobody cares that it is unfinished. Of course we ALL care what it looks like - and that looks very nice!
That is soo Pretty!!!! Love the material too.. You two girls are so talented.Ever think of you two opening a craft store..LOL love ya
